Did the world end in Miami yesterday?
It seems that the world did not end on Dec. 21 like so many people thought it would. It sure was a cold day in Miami which did feel strange even if it is December. I went to K mart to do a bit of holiday shopping and I'm telling you I had to stop and question if the world really did end. Let me say I hate stores like K mart, Walmart etc. They attract the most dangerous shopping cart drivers in society. Anyhoo..if you have ever shopped at K mart in Miami you know that they love air conditioning and keep it in deep freeze mode all year long. Yesterday, not only was the AC shut off but they actually had the HEAT on. Truly a when hell freezes over moment.

A broken Hearted Fashion Blogger
Hi everybody. There hasn’t been any fashion news posted here in a few days. Like most of us in the country, I am very shaken by the shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary that took place Friday morning. Writing about fashion seems rather selfish and cold when I know that so many families are in so much pain. Even though I am not directly affected-I do not know any of these people I can’t stop crying. When I first heard about this horrible incident, I had gone to a café to enjoy a nice lunch and sift through the press releases that I received. The café, has large televisions that were all showing CNN. Where I was on this day and time is forever etched in my memory as it is in everybody else’s. Instead of a relaxing afternoon, I suffered an anxiety attack. An anxiety attack in someone so far away who had no connection to any of the victims. I cannot be the only person who had that kind of reaction to the news and I can only imagine what the families of these victims are feeling. We all want answers that may never be known.
December 14th, was indeed a very sad day for all of us and a very sad day for our country.

A Heavenly Garden is heavenly
Today I was driving down Krome avenue in Miami when I made a great find. While many know about A Heavenly Garden it was unknown to me. I purchased a banana tree today and will definitely be back. They have great prices and a great selection. I will be writing a feature for Tropic Style Magazine. This wonderful plant nursery located at 21950 SW 177 ave in Miami has exotic bromeliads starting at just $1.50 and beautiful orchids starting at $5.

Quick note to Public Relations companies etc
Hi guys. A big thank you to everybody who has been reading my fashion blog here, Tropic Style Magazine and the Miami Fashion Blogger. I hate to publically post any complaints but I am getting a lot of emails from PR firms telling me about ( insert famous name here) wearing their client's brand. Then they direct me to purchase images. What I do is a labor of love. If you want me to pulicize your clients then send images that are free and clear for me to use. I will not pay out of mu own pocket for these images AND provide free advertisment. Thanks everybody. To send inquiries to Tropic Style Magazine the address is Tropicstyle@ ymail dot com and toc contact me annamariericci@ ymail dot com.
Chanel at Art Basel Miami and other fabulous finds
This week fashion editors like myself have a chance to relax after s hectic week at Miami’s Art Basel. Clearly, fashion loves art and vice versa. This year, we saw more fashion events during Art Basel week than any other year. In fact, there were more fashion events going on last week than art exhibitions. I along with other attendees from Tropic Style Magazine, dressed for these events like we would during Miami Fashion Week.
There were so many events and parties going on that it was impossible to be at all of them. The most sought after ticket (and most difficult to attain) was the Chanel event at Soho beach House. The security there was unreal, with multiple guest checkpoints, but understandable given all the famous attendees. Chanel hosted a private Barbeque and charity auction with proceeds going to the Henry Street Settlement. Lenny Kravitz and Demi Moore were seen getting very cozy at the after-party.
As always, Chanel did not disappoint. Of their newest designs, I have my favorites. Chanel's to-die-for brocade booties have the perfect sparkle for holiday parties. These are beyond fabulous. I'll take these in a size 6 1/2 please!
My next pick is the Boy Château purse. This purse perfectly compliments the brocade booties but both pieces are show stoppers if worn alone. This is another to-die-for piece from Chanel. I am literally at a loss for words, which does not happen to me very often with regard to fashion. The only words I can used to describe these pieces are regal and opulent.

The Rain Barrel Shops islamorada
I went exploring in the Florida keys today looking for some interesting places worth featuring on my blogs and Tropic Style Magazine. My journey took me to the Rain Barrel shops in Islamorada which looked promising. These are quaint little shops nestled in a village sort of like Cauley Square that Tatyana writes about. Unfortunately I left disapponted. Arriving at 5:20 I was told by the owner of a women's boutque that she was closing as in right now. She stressed that she was only giving me 3 minutes to look around but then encouraged me to make my purchases on her website. Sheesh. The hours this shopping village keeps can only cater to the tourists and not the locals. Regardless I was out the door by 5:24 and the shop keeper right behind me. I suspect that had I run in and announced that I am the editor of this publication then I would have been worth more than 3 minutes of this lady's time, but I should not have to do that. Every customer is just as
valuable as me.
valuable as me.
Historic Redland Hotel, Homestead Florida
Today we are finally able to relax and take a break from a very busy week at Art Basel. We are at the historic Redland Hotel on Flagler Avenue in Homestead. We are having lunch at the Whistlestop and will be doing a review for Tropic Style. I of course am drawn to this building as an historian and as someone who has more than a passing interest in the paranormal

The Casablanca Piano from La Belle Aurore > Casablanca was released with great patriotic fanfare in November of 1942, coinciding with the Allied invasion of Morocco. It is a movie of its time replete with careful war propaganda and characteristic banter and yet timeless. Over the past seventy years it has become one of the most beloved movies ever made and the song so deeply entwined with it, As Times Goes By, has reached a similar immortality. On 14 December 2012, Sothebys will auction off this iconic Casablanca piano from La Belle Aurore. The piece will be on exhibition in New York Saturday 8 December through Thursday 13 December,
Fashion Flashback: Marilyn Mullet...er, Manson
Get ready fashionistas, have a look at this. Holy cow! Sorry, wrong team. Marilyn Manson has had a makeover or a make under. In this photograph, credited to Mr. Manson, the 40 something year old rocker exchanges his famous black eyeliner, white makeup and otherwise spookiness for this rather all American look, although I'm no fan of a mullet with Jeri-curls. Interview magazine published this photograph of Manson who reportedly is a huge fan of HBO's "Eastbound Down," a comedy about a baseball player whose glory days have passed him. It is the lead characer in the series that Manson is portaying in this photograph. Nonetheless, it offers us a rare glimpse of Manson without his trademark make-up but clearly still plenty of attitude!
Interestingly enough Eastbound & Down is co-directed by David Gordon Green who is producing Manson's new flick the "Splatter Sisters," which is due to be released next year and co-stars his on again off again girlfriend/fiance Evan Rachel Wood. Stay tuned.

Fashion Flashback: Madonna and daughter Lourdes launch Material Girl at Macy's in Miami
Macy's department store is well known for hosting blogger brunches and major fashion events at their Miami Store at Dadeland Mall. Macy's keeps raising the bar at these events. spoiling fashion bloggers and customers in attendance with delectable snacks, lunches, giveaways and entertainment. One of the best events to stand out in my recent memory was the launch if the Material Girl clothing line at Macy's Dadeland mall store. We were treated to an exciting preview of the new clothing line, along with a DJ who played retro Madonna tunes. Of course, there were also exciting giveways, beautiful fashion models. We couldn't ask for more than that. Macy's always hosts first class events and is one of our favorite company's to work with.

Ricci’s stunning look was complimented by custom OPI lacquered nails. To achieve This rosy- brown color, three shades of OPI polish were mixed; Samoan Sand, I’m Suzi and I’m a Chocoholic.

Why I love Being a Miami Fashion Blogger
Why I love Being A fashion blogger
By Annamarie Ricci
When I moved to Miami from Illinois five years ago, I was excited not only to never have to shovel snow again, but also to get involved with it’s legendary fashion scene. I was not disappointed! I moved from one fashion capitol to another. I came here expecting to write about beachwear all year long. Our legendary beaches of the American Riviera are a large part of our culture but I was pleasantly surprised to find out that Miami fashion was much more than bikinis and flip flops. The first thing about Miami that I noticed was the usage of colors on building exteriors that would never fly in the midwest. The pink coral stuccoed walls combined with the blue glass give this city it’s playful, exotic spirit which has become it’s trademark. These cotton candy pastels I speak of are most notably found on the historic Art Deco buildings of South Beach.
Living in Miami is like living in another country. It’s a place where it is okay to break the rules-creatively speaking. How great it is to see this freedom reflected both on the runways of Miami and street style. Fashion bloggers or fashion journalists as I prefer to be called, isn’t celebrated like it is here either. In Illinois if you write a fashion blog it’s a hobby and really goes no further. But Miami has not only embraced fashion bloggers like me, the city has turned us into A-list celebrities. Imagine my culture shock. I come here and it’s like here’s an invitation to Nikki Beach; here’s your front row seat at Mercedes Benz Fashion Week. Beauty products to sample and review, the exclusive parties-yacht parties people, private resorts and autographed shirts from rock stars like Madonna. It’s crazy! And the Miami fashion scene keeps on growing. It is my hope to see SoBe as it was when Gianni Versace ruled. I never started writing about fashion to be anyone other than myself. I write about fashion because I love fashion. I wanted to reach out to others and share my own personal style. Fashion is a very personal thing and that can be a difficult thing for some people because you are opening up and sharing so much of yourself with complete strangers on the internet.
I believe that an explanation for the popularity of the fashion bloggers lays with the designers themselves. Designers are paying attention-very close attention to what everyday fashionistas are wearing to work, on dates, on a day at the mall. They want to know what young women are wearing, what they are buying and most importantly what we are recommending. So blogging on the internet is a powerful thing. PR companies have people who do nothing but search the internet for these influential voices and opinions. Miami’s style mavens have the power to influence consumers and yes, even influence designer’s collections because we are a reflection of our generation We are at the malls and at those make up counters. So we see and we pay very close attention to not only what people are wearing but How she wears it. And we bridge that gap between the manufacturers and the consumers. Sometimes, being in the middle is the best place to be.
I always understood the power of the internet. But only Miami seems to really get it. Fashion bloggers are invited to get up close to designers at shows and events. Not so long ago, going beyond the fabled velvet ropes was reserved for privileged few. I know this from my own experience as a successful fashion model. There was a time when those runways were lined with nothing but fashion critics, buyers, socialites and celebrities. Now you’re likely to see the everyday girls here too-the bloggers who are not only telling others about the upcoming trends but also how to put the pieces together.
For me, the creation Tropic Style Magazine is a dream come true. I am not a lone journalist but rather one of several talented voices writing here. I get up every morning and absolutely love what I do. How many people can really say that? I live in one of the most beautiful tropical paradises in the world. I wake up to the smell salty ocean air and my heavenly gardenias. Every day is a blessing and an adventure that I never take for granted. I am surrounded by creative people who inspire me to be my creative best. Obviously, Tropic Style discusses much more than fashion which will also give me the opportunity to share my other passions, including tropical gardening, animal welfare, and miniatures.
Before this article turns into a book on fashion blogging, I am going to sign off, take off my Jimmy Choos, slip into a relaxing bubble bath and get ready for another day of high fashion adventures in paradise.
