subject: Advert Job Offer
Hello,
Your face has been selected for an advert job by my agency, pls show your interest by sending your reply to maryrigh002@yahoo.co.uk
Regards,
Mary.
We were intrigued. We are used to getting spammed by your run of the mill Nigerian scammers but this was a new one on us. So we created a fictious email account along with a fake model’s name. We cannot disclose those details at this times as our team of professional models are still engaged in an email exchange with these internet fraudsters. However, we did not want to wait to publish this article as a warning.
We replied to this email as our fictious model. We expressed a niave excitement and we even sent Mary Right a headshot- yes, a headshot of actress Linda Blair in her legendary role in the Excorist. We have all seen this image of her in full demonic makeup.
To our surprise, we recieved a reply:
Hello (name redacted) ,
I work with Crush Models, the profile selected was sent by a third party company. They look through sites like Facebook, MySpace and MM to identify a profile that is suitable for billboard advertising. We do not involved in erotic or topless images, also in our previous email, we made it known that our client who contracted this job to us produces international telephone cards and they will want your face to appear on their products and billboards. This is a serious offer and to demonstrate how serious we are, you will be paid for this assignment, a fresh shoot be arranged for and the photo session would hold in a photographer’s studio close to your city. Let us know if you are interested,so we can send you more information.
Best regards,
Mary.
We replied again and offered to send her another headshot for consideration.

Our professional responded again by asking who gets the linion’s share of this $30,000 because it’s not the model.
Hello (name redacted),
Thanks for getting back to us. Yes, the remainder of the money is to organize the shoot and also to pay other crew members that will take part in the job. We would never be involved in copyright issues, this is why we make it as a duty to organize a new photo shoot for this particular campaign. More so, this is an advert campaign and you do not need to be a professional model to be picked. We can not use the pictures on the social networking sites, as we would arrange a photo session at a photographer studio near you. Please look out for further details on where and when the job will start, from our admin department. Their email address is

Congratulations once again,
Mary.
Within five minutes, we discover that we have already been contacted by this bogus “agency”. they really think they have a sucker on the line.

It becomes obvious to us that this is more than a modeling scam. This is an Identity theft scam and a Nigerian email scam.
Right off those of us who write for Tropic Style and who aren’t involved in the fashion industry know this is a scam. However, when we obtain the emails from the second con man involved, we will publish an in depth article about this where we will be interviewing one of Miami’s top fashion models and fashion bloggers Annamarie Ricci who will weigh in on this matter and she will be explaining specifically why this is a scam targeting amateur models
Annamarie Ricci is a Miami and south Florida Fashion reporter/blogger and editor of Tropic Style Magazine. As a fashion model, she presents a unique insider's perspective

My upcoming magazine interview about new modeling scam
I have an update on the email scam being sent out by Mary Right maryright0002@yahoo.co.uk . This purports to be an email sent from a supposed agent who is offering "advert" modeling jobs. I am being interviewed by a magazine where I will be talking about this scam and how you can spot modeling scams like these. When the interview is published I will post an announcement. I hope you will take the time to read it.

Modeling scam meets Nigerian email scam from maryright0002@yahoo.co.uk
This was sent to the magazine's email address today. The subject was " advert job offer" This should be interesting. I will share updates when I have them. Most likely its a money laundering scheme. We want to use your face for a billboard advert campaign that would be running in a short while. However, we would need your approval before we go ahead with any arrangements. Heading West
I suffered another nearly fatal asthma attack the other morning. The paramedics were called to my house at3 am. That's twice now within two months. Whereas I have never had to call the paramedics ever in my life. Florida is a beautiful place but it is all of the mold that thrives in this humid climate that is making me very sick. Years ago doctors told asthmatics to move to Arizona but Arizona has become polluted. Now it looks like New Mexico is the place for asthmatics. But the deserts see drastic temperature fluctuations and I can't tolerate cold weather which is why I am in Florida in the first place. Just know that I may soon be known as an Arizona or New Mexico fashion blogger and reporter.

Everything For The Birds Spring Sale Going on Now
I have kept birds since I was seven years old. My first bird was a little white female Zebra finch. As time went on my love for these remarkable creatures has grown and so had my flock! I got a recent email from Everything For The Birds in Wilton Manors announcing that their babies have arrived. I live down in Key Largo and although we have stores closer, like the Aviary at Cauley Square, it is worth the trip to Wilton Manors. I have always gotten friendly and knowledgeable service from their staff. I left there today with three new babies: a beautiful pastel blue male parakeet and a pair of white finches. In addition to selling healthy hand raised babies, they offer a huge selection of toys, food, and other goodies to spoil your flock.

Too Many Spring 2013 Lookbooks Make for Strained Eyes
As a busy ashion editor of Tropic Style and with two successful fashion and style blogs, it seems every designer wants to be featured. I love fashion and I love talking about fashion. I am up to my strained eyeballs in Lookbooks. For those of you who don't know what those are, these are the electronic catalogues of the designer's latest collections. I have hundreds of them still to consider for features and editorials. Problem is, I suffer from migraines and eyestrain so my time in front of this tiny screen must be limited. Small screens are like looking through keyholes and we all know that straining causes wrinkles. If anybody has any suggestions to remedy this problem let me know. This is the same reason why I stress that I cannot and will not do any book reviews in ebook format. |
